The filmmakers spent a year observing a poor family of Moshers. It was only possible because one of them was the family member. The representatives of different generations have to grapple with difficult living standards as well as a number of traumas from the past including domestic violence, sexual abuse and post-war scars. Avoiding sociological generalizations, Palmieri and Mosher created an intimate portrait of underprivileged American family whose life contradicts the American dream.
