REQUIREMENTS

The 52nd Krakow Film Festival (52nd KFF) will be held from 28 May to 3 June 2012. The aim of the Festival is to present and review documentaries, animated films and short feature films in three competitions as well as in other festival sections.

The competitions include:

  1. national competition open to films made in Poland with a running time of:
    documentary films -     60 minutes or less
    documentary films - more than 60 minutes
    animated films - 30 minutes or less
    feature films - 30 minutes or less

    Polish producers submit their films only to the national competition. The Selection Committee decide about Polish films which will participate in international competitions (they have to fulfil conditions specified in each competition). Polish premiere is not required but preference is given to the films that have not been screened in Poland at any festival held before 52nd KFF.
  2. international short film competition open to documentaries, animated films and short feature films with a running time of 30 minutes or less.

  3. international documentary film competition open to documentaries with a running time of:
    * 30 to 60 minutes
    * more than 60 minutes

    Polish premiere is required.

Only the films completed after 1 January 2011 are eligible for competitions.

The Festival Director shall decide whether the film has been admitted to the competition.
The films submitted for the previous editions of KFF that were not selected for screenings as well as those already screened will not be considered. The Applicants may not appeal against the Festival Director’s decision. The Organisers may withdraw from the requirements included in these Rules and Regulations for films of exceptional artistic value.

 

The non-competition sections include:

Subject to the Organisers’ decision, the films submitted for selection may be screened in the non-competition sections of the Festival: Panorama of the Polish Film, Krakow Documentary Premieres, Sound of Music, Somewhere in Europe, and others.

 

SELECTION

There is no fee for a film entry.
Films shall be submitted exclusively on DVDs.

Deadlines:
30 November 2011 for films completed before 31 August 2011
10 February 2012 for films completed after 31 August 2011

In order to be considered for selection films must be submitted using an on-line entry form available at www.krakowfilmfestival.pl and a preview copy (DVD) must be delivered as scheduled above (but not later than 7 days after on-line registration) to the following address:

If the above deadlines are not observed or the on-line entry form is not duly completed, the Organisers have no obligation whatsoever to admit the film. Preview copies (DVDs) submitted for selection will not be returned.

 

COMPETITION

The films selected for competitions shall be made available to the organizers free of charge. Applicants shall be notified of the film admission or rejection by e-mail, fax or post at least 30 days before the beginning of the Festival. The list of the films admitted to the competition run shall also be published on the Festival website www.krakowfilmfestival.pl as soon as the selection is completed.

If the film has been admitted to festival screenings, the applicant is obliged to send the following materials:

  • film stills
  • a photo and biography of the director
  • a dialogue list in the original language and in English

The following formats are eligible for festival screenings: 35mm, BETA Digital PAL and Blu-ray. Any other formats will not be accepted.

All copies must be subtitled in English (unless English is the original language of the film).

  • Golden Dragon for the director of the best film
  • Silver Dragon for the director of the best documentary film
  • Silver Dragon for the director of the best animated film
  • Silver Dragon for the director of the best feature film
  • Special Mentions

International documentary film competition:

  • Golden Horn for the director of the best film
  • Silver Horn for a the director of the best medium-length documentary
  • Silver Horn for the director of the best full-length documentary
  • Special Mentions

National competition:

  • Golden Hobby-Horse for the director of the best film
  • Silver Hobby-Horse for the director of the best documentary film
  • Silver Hobby-Horse for the director of the best animated film
  • Silver Hobby-Horse for the director of the best feature film
  • Special Mentions

The People's Choice Award is an audience award to the best film presented in the competitions.

 

The Dragon of Dragons, a special lifetime achievement award, is granted by the Programme Council of the Krakow Film Foundation for the outstanding contribution to the development of documentary and animated film. In 2012 it will be bestowed upon a documentary film director.

 

SCREENINGS AND PROMOTION

Each film may has no more than five screenings during the Festival. Any additional presentations outside the Festival programme shall require a separate prior consent expressed by the producer.

The films selected to the competitive sections become automatically available through the digital video library to the participants of the Krakow Film Market held during the Festival (except written request from the Producer).

The Applicant consents to the Organisers publishing information about the film on the festival website as well as in all printed festival (such as the catalogue, the programme, leaflets, etc.) and press materials.

For promotional purposes, media, television stations and partner Internet portals may be granted access to film materials (stills, information), trailers or film excerpts sent by film producer on the conditions specified in on-line entry form.

Applicants shall not withdraw their films from the Festival once the selection is confirmed by the Festival and approved by the producer.

The Organisers may engage distribution of selected award-winning films on the conditions agreed with the owners of rights.

 

DELIVERY, INSURANCE AND RETURN OF FILM COPIES

The applicant shall bear all the transport costs of DVDs submitted for selection, festival copies as well as all the shipping charges. The applicant shall also pay all the customs duties outside Poland. The Festival does not bear any customs duties outside Poland.  The Applicant must conform to the customs regulations concerning the transport of films. All shipments from outside the EU must be accompanied with a pro forma invoice of maximum EUR 15 and the following notice: 'No commercial value. For cultural purposes only'.

Film copies shall be returned by the Organisers at their own cost within two weeks after the closing of the Festival to the address indicated by the applicant. Any changes in the return address shall be notified to the Organisers not later than one week before the start of the Festival.
The films submitted for selection shall be insured against damage, theft and third-party liability while they remain in the Organisers' possession.

 

FINAL PROVISIONS

Submitting a film to the Krakow Film Festival is equivalent to the acceptance of the conditions set out in these Rules and Regulations.
All decisions in the matters not covered by these Rules and Regulations shall be taken by the Organisers represented by the Festival Director. The KFF Rules and Regulations have been drawn up in accordance with the FIAPF International Regulations. Should there be any uncertainty the Polish version prevails.
