48th KRAKOW FILM FESTIVAL

REGULATIONS
REQUIREMENTS
The 48th Krakow Film Festival will be held from 30th May to 5th June 2008. The aim of the Festival is to present and review the documentary films, animations and short fictions.
The Festival presents films in the three competitive sections:
- international competition for films produced outside of Poland which running time shall be:
- Documentary films - up to 60 minutes
- Animated films - up to 30 minutes
- Short fiction - up to 30 minutes
The films should not be presented in Poland before.
- national competition for films produced in Poland which running time shall be:
- Documentary films - up to 60 minutes
- Animated films - up to 30 minutes
- Short fiction - up to 30 minutes
Selection Committee will choose Polish films for the international competition amongst the films entered to the selection. The film awarded with Golden Hobby-Horse will take part in the international competition.
- international feature documentary competition for documentary films longer than 60 minutes, produced in Poland and abroad. The films should not be presented in Poland before.
Only films completed after 1st January 2007 may be submitted to the selection.
The Festival director, at the Selection Committee’s request, shall decide about the admission of each film to the competition. In exceptional cases the Organiser may withdraw from the condition of a Polish premiere.
There is no entry fee.
SELECTION
The Festival Organiser shall accept to the selection films on DVD in PAL system (region lock free).
The deadlines:
For films produced before August 31st 2007: 30th November 2007
For films produced after August 31st 2007: 11th February 2008
Only films entered on-line (www.cff.pl) which reach the Festival Office in time will be considered for selection. Preview copies (DVD) should be sent to the following address :

In case the preview copy doesn’t reach the Festival Office in time or its entry form is not duly completed,
the Organiser has no obligation whatsoever to admit the film to the selection. The Festival does not return preview copies (DVD) entered to the selection.
COMPETITION
Applicants will be given notice of their film’s admission or rejection by e-mail, fax or post at least 30 days before the beginning of the Festival.
The list of the films accepted to the competition run will also be published on the Festival’s website www.cff.pl after the final decision of the Selection Committee.
After receiving an information about film admission applicant is obliged to send the following materials:
- film stills
- synopsis
- photo and biography of the director
- dialogue list in English
The following formats are accepted for the festival screenings:
- 35mm
- 16mm
- BETA SP PAL
- Digital BETA
All copies must be subtitled in English.
NOTICE! Films on CD-ROM, DVD or in BETA SP NTSC or U-matic video formats will not be accepted.

DISPATCH, INSURANCE AND RETURN OF FILM TAPES.
Costs of transport of DVD submitted for selection as well as of the competition copies and all the freight costs shall be born by the applicant.
He or she is also responsible for all the customs costs outside Poland and is obliged to conform to the customs regulations connected to the transport of films.
All shipment from outside of the EU must be accompanied with the pro forma invoice amounting to a maximum of 20 €.
All screening prints and BETA tapes shall be returned at the Organiser’s cost within two weeks from the closing date of the Festival. Notice should be given to the Organiser about any changes in the return address not later than one week before the Festival’s start.
The films selected for the competition shall be insured by the Organiser against damage, theft and for third-party liability during the time they are in the Organiser’s possession.
PRIZES
The International Competition Jury awards the following prizes :
- The Golden Dragon for the director of the best film
- The Silver Dragon for the director of the best documentary film
- The Silver Dragon for the director of the best animated film
- The Silver Dragon for the director of the best short fiction film
- Special Mentions
- PRIX UIP Kraków
The National Competition Jury awards the following prizes:
- The Golden Hobby-Horse for the director of the best film
- The Silver Hobby-Horse for the director of the best documentary film
- The Silver Hobby-Horse for the director of the best animated film
- The Silver Hobby-Horse for the director of the best short fiction film
- Special Mentions
The International Jury of the Feature-length Documentaries’ Competition awards the following prizes:
- The Golden Horn for the best film
- The Silver Horn for the best directing
- Special Mention for the best cinematography
The Programme Council of the Krakow Film Foundation grants the special lifetime achievement award – the Dragon of Dragons for outstanding contribution to the evolution of documentary or animated film.
SCREENINGS
Competition films may be shown not more than three times during the Festival.
The Applicant undertakes not to withdraw the film from the Festival.
The films selected to the competition screenings are automatically accessible to the participants of Krakow Film Market organised during the Festival.
The producers of the competition films are granting their consent to 5 gratuitous screenings within presentations of awarded films organised after the end of the Festival both in Poland and abroad.
The exact schedule of the awarded films screening will be sent to the producers after the announcement of the Jury’s verdict.
Additional presentations organised outside this schedule shall require the prior consent of the producer.
For the purposes of promotion, the Festival Organiser may give television station access to special promotion films prepared by the film’s producer on the conditions defined in the entry form.
FINAL REMARKS
Submitting a film for the selection of the Krakow Film Festival shall be considered as acceptance of the conditions set out in these Regulations.
Decisions in all the matters not covered by these Regulations shall be taken by the Organiser represented by the Festival Director.
The Regulations is prepared in accordance with FIAPF’s International Regulations. In case of doubt, the Polish version applies.
